Halevy Will Hold
Concert April 21
At a joint session of the music-
al and executive committees of
the Detroit Halevy Singing So-
ciety, it was decided that the ten-
tative fate for the tenth annual
concert be set for Sunday, April
21. A committee consisting of
Morris Scharer, Dan Frohman
and Fred Alterman will negotiate
the renting of a concert hall.
In the meantime rehearsals are
being held regularly every Mon-
day evening in,Roorn 123 of
Northern High School Dan Froh-
man, Halevy musical director, is
conducting rehearsals.
The active membership ranks
are now closed to new members
until after the concert. Old mem-
bers who do not attend regularly
commencing Jan. 14 will be
dropped from the rolls and will
not be granted reinstatement in
the choir until after the concert,
Because of the difficult and in-
tricate nature of the Oratorio
"Dos Naie Lied" to be featured,
these rules will be strictly en-
forced.
Besides the concert program,
the choir is also singing unison
songs. A group of three songs by
one composer is featured consec-
utively. Having completed such a
group by Solomon Golub, the choir
is now learning the first of a
group by the well known Jewish
composer, Gelbart. The rehearsals
for unison singing are held 15
minutes prior to the regular re-
hearsals.
Morris Scherer, president, and
Harry Resnick, recording secre-
tary of Halevy, this week issued
a statement to local organizations
stating that due to concert pre-
parations the society will he un-
able to offer musical talents for
society meetings until after the
event in April.
