Mme, Hulda Lashanska Is Constantin Komorowaky and
Next Detroit Symphony
Mark Gunzburg in Mu-
Soloist on Dec. 20
sicale This Sunday

Mme. Ilulda Lashanska, richly
gifted soprano who is very popu-
lar here, will be presented as
soloist at the sixth concert of the
Detroit Symphony, Thursday eve-
ning, Dec. 20, in Orchestra Hall.
The program, under the direction
of Ossip Gabrilowitsch, begins at
8:30 o'clock.
The distinguished artist will be
heard in a varied group of num-
bers planned to display the wide
scope of her artistry and interpre-
tative ability. It comprises Bach'a
"Kam sooner Tod," Wagner'o
"Traume," Strauss's "Zueignung,"
Gabrilowitach's "Good-Bye" and
Techaikovsky's "Nur wee die
Schnsucht Kenna."
Mr. Gabrilowitsch will open the
concert with the first local perfor•
mance of the suite "Tafel-Musik"
by Telemann, a composer of the
early 18th century. This "Table-
Music," played in olden days
at banquets on gala occasions, is
aaid to be highly interesting.
Another work unfamiliar here
will be the Seventh Symphony of
Bruckner, a work of rare beauty,
the Adagio movement especially
being notable for its emotional
quality and gorgeous color.
Respighl's brilliant symphonic
poem, "The Fountains of Rome,"
will bring the concert to a clone.

a musicale in the Gunzburg School
of Music, 477 W. Kirby. The
feature of the program will be
the Sonata Op. 19 for 'cello and
piano by Rachmaninoff, one of
his most important compositions,
which was never performed in
Detroit. The 'cello part will be
played by Constantin Komarow-
sky, who is, well known in De-
troit not only as an excellent
'cello virtuoso but also as a gifted
sculptor and painter. There will
also be played some other corn-'
positions for 'cello and piano. Dr.
Mark Gunzburg will be the pianist.
The program starts at 4
o'clock sharp. There will be no
admission charge.
