gathering, which initiated this ac-
tion. Samuel Untermyer, despite
his unwillingness to preside lest
a solely Jewish aspect be attrib-
uted to the conference, was elec-
ted chairman and president, but
it was notable that as many non-
Jews composed the attendance.
It enthusiastically applauded
Walter Citrine, president of the
International Federation of Trade
Unions, when he eloquently net
forth the grievances against the
present German regime, empha-
sizing the view that, despite their
peaceful protestations the actions
of the Nazi leaders were leading
inevitably toward a new war.
Other addresses were made by
the Rev. Paul J. Teissonieres,
head of the Unitarian commu-
nity in Belgium, who speaking in
French called for unity in de-
fense of liberties menaced by
Hitlerism; by Mrs. Mark Harris
of Chicago, who told how women
were enforcing the boycott of
German goods there; . Dr. Paul
Hutchinsin of Chicago, editor of
Christian Century and Richard J.
Beamish, former Secretary of
State of Pennsylvania, who de-
scribed the banning there of the
"Silver Shirts" organization as
inimical to the American ideals
and purposes.

SACHS' HED-AID "5"
MEETS HARLEM GLOBE
TROTTERS ON SUNDAY

Basketball makes its bow here
Sunday night when Philip "Cincy"
Sachs' lied-Aid five, formerly
known as Dr. Toole's team, opens
its season against the highly touted
Harlem Globe Trotters of New
York. The game will be played at
the Light Guard Armory, Brush
and Lamed.
Featuring a team of sensational
colored stars, each one a headliner
in his own field, the Globe Trotters
have gained undisputed claim to
the most colorful and entertaining
club now being presented to the
American public. The team travels
from coast to coast.
Inman Jackson, rapidly gaining
repute as the outstanding center
in the country, heads the team as
captain. He is supported by a cast
of five of the greatest colored art-
ists in the country.
Against this array of stars Coach
Sachs will present a lineup of play-
ers who staged one of the most
thrilling games ever witnessed in
Royal Oak. lied-Aid defeated
Schmidt at St. Mary's high 62-59
after an overtime period had been
played. Score at the end of the
regulation time was, 54 all.
Hed-Aid probably will lineup for
the game with Frank Worzniak
and Harold McCammon, forwards;
Waldo Ashley, center, and Norm
Crowe and Sam Askowitz, guards.
Worzniak and Ashley are former
Michigan Normal stars. McCam-
mon hails from Ball State Teach-1
ers college of Indiana. Crowe cap-
tained Notre Dame's strong aggre-
gation in 1932, while Askowitz
prepped at Northern High here.
Other players who see action are
Carl Gussin and Norm Barton, for-
mer all M. I. A. A. choices while
at Alma college; Vaughn Waddell,
who played with Central High, and
Julius Goldman, present Detroit
Institute of Technology basketball
coach,
In addition to the Globe Trotters
Coach Sachs is planning on bring-
ing such teams as the New York
Celtics, Brooklyn Jewels of which
Hank Greenberg, Tiger first base-
man, is a member; Firestone Tires
of Akron, 0.; Indianapolis Big Ten
All-Stars; Masked Marvels of New
Mexico; Rennaisance of New York
City and Michigan All-Stars. All
games are to be played at the
