Rosalind Glickman, pianist-dra-

Farhand Folk Shute, 8679 12th St.
The business of the conference
will consist of reports of the pro-

last year's Gewerkshaften activi-
ties in Detroit, and discussion of
plans fur future activity here in
I support of the workers of Pales-

Last year Palestine absorbed a
Jewish immigration of almost 50,-
000, but increasingly large numbers
will have to be received from the
countries where the Jewish masses
are suffering economic disaster and
political persecution. This respon-
sibility must be shared by every
Jewish organization in the world
that realizes the gravity of the sit-
uation with which our people are
faced.

L. A. S. BAZAAR
The eighth annual bazaar and
carnival of the Detroit Auxiliary
of the Los Angeles Sanatorium
and Ex-Patients Home will be
held at the B'nai Moshe Center
from Saturday evening, Dec. 1,
to Moirlay, Dec. 10, inclusive.
Sixty-five organizations have al-
ready accepted the invitations to
march in to this affair for the
benefit of unfortunate victims of
tuberculosis. All groups, includ-
ing societies, congregations, clubs,
are expected to join the big par-
ade. Call Madison 0766 for in-
formation and leave the message
when your organization will come
so that same may be published in
The Jewish Chronicle.
The official grand opening of
this event will take place on Sat-
urday evening, at 8 o'clock. Mayor
Couzens and Judge Vincent M.
Brennan have been invited to
officially open this bazaar and car-
nival. Leading artists of Litt.
man's People's Theater will par-
ticipate in the musical program.
Other talent will participate in
the musical program. Other tal-
ent will take part. There will be
no admission charge.
The attention of the public is
called to the fact that not a sin-
gle patient has been refused ad-
mittance to the sanatorium since
the inception of the auxiliary,
and that for the last eight years
numeroet patients from Detroit
have been admitted, among them
men and women referred by Dr.
Derbey of the Ilerman Kiefer
Hospital and other local medical
authorities. A mother of three
small children was sent away last
Tuesday. A young lady of 23
is now on the applicant list wait-
ing to be admitted.
The sanatorium has, for the
last 21 years, functioned in the
interests of indigent consump-
tives, and it has provided them,
absolutely free of charge, with
shelter, food, the best of medical
care and attention and, above all,
with a friendly, homelike atmos-
phere. It has a recreation hall
where artists appear in recitals,
and the bed-ridden patients have
radios in their rooms.
The sanatorium is serving the
purpose of a Jewish hiepital for
victims of tuberculosis. It finds
itself in • critical financial condi-
tion. Proceeds of this ten-day
bazaar and carnival will aid this
institution, make it possible fo r
more Detroit patients to be sent
to the sanatorium and ex-patients
home.
Heinz Liepmann Tells Ex-
periences to Shaarey
Zedek Audience
The tragedy of a German-Jew-
ish refugee who has escaped from
the Whitmoor concentration camp
was revealed in all its horrors
when Ileinz Llepmann, author of
"Murder-Made in Germany," ad-
dressed an audience of more than
1,100 in the social hall of the
Shaarey Zedek, on Wednesday
evening. The lecture was ar-
ranged by the Men's Club of
Shaarey Zedek.
Before Mr. Liepmann had
spoken five minutes it became ap-
parent that as he spoke he relived
his experiences and saw again be-
fore him the panorama of blood-
shed and barbarism perpetrated
by the Nazis.
A very sick man whose health
has been permanently damaged
as a result of the beatings ad-
ministered to him in the concen-
tration camp, Mr. I.iepmann re-
lated again the story of Ger-
many's first few months under the
Nazis and the methods used to
force Ilitlerism upon the people
in the Reich. Ile ducted from
his book as` a means of telling
how he escaped from the con-
centration camp by swimming
for two and a half hours and
finally binding on an American
freighter,
Mr. Liepmann reminded his
audience of the dangers of Fas-
cism facing this country and
urged that all should take an
interest in politics in order to
stave off forthcoming dangers.
Ile declared that when a person
who fights with reason has as his
opponent a man who uses weap-
ons, the latter will win.
Mr. Liepmann said that Ger-
many's downfall is due to three
causes: 1. Indifference of cul-
tured people who would not use
the same weapons used by the
Nazis to prevent the latter from
gaining control; 2. the rise of
the unhappy republic after the
war and the election of Hitler;
3. the actions of Germany's lead-
ers who yielded to Hitler after
he had lost 2,000,000 votes in the
1932 election.
Explaining why he dedicated
"Murder-Made in Germany" to
the Jews, the speaker stated that
he is certain that the Socialists
in Germany will win and that
when they die they die as mar-
tyrs. But when the Jews die, he
declared, they die only in the
long course of an historic tradi-
tion, they die for the cause of
justice in the world, as inheritors
of an historic tradition.
His concluding warning to the
audience was
"You are in danger. Fight
with all your love and all your
hate against war and against the
dictates of violence. Do not for-
get how to sacrifice. Do not for-
get the martyrs in Germany."
Mr. Liepmann was introduced
by Simon Shetzer. Harry M.
Shulman, president of the Shea-
rey Zedek Men's Club, presided
at the meeting. Violin *elections
by Leo Bistriteky of the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra, accom-
panied by Miss Rosa Bassin, pre-
ceded Mr. Liepinann's address.
