host at a banquet to one of the
largest gatherings in its history,
at the Detroit-Leland Hotel, at
which "Hank" Greenberg was the
guest of honor.
Covers were laid for 500 and
several hundred members were
disappointed because the manage-
ment was unable to accommodate
them.
The program commenced with
community singing, led by John
Becker, who also rendered sev-
eral solos.
Sons of members desieged
"Hank" for his autograph, which
he gave freely. The youngsters
also enjoyed the magic performed
by "Cecil the Great."
A talk on "The Stage—Past,
Present and Future," was given
by Fred J. Ireland.
Through the courtesy of Club
Manhattan, Larry Vincent, master
of ceremonies, and seseral talent-
ed performers entertained the
audience. •
Henry Greenberg discussed the
work of the Tigers. He lauded
the work of Manager "Mickey"
Cochrane for his understanding
and handling of each individual
player and the team as a group.
He expressed his thanks to the
people of Detroit and to all base-
ball fans for the support and
loyalty given this season.
We are, indeed, grate.
