Jews Suffered Heavily
During Polish Floods

WARSAW. (JTA)—Details
now available indicate that the
Jewish communities in the flood
area in Poland were hard hit.
In the Novy Sante district,
comprising several Jewish
townships and villages, 500
Jewish families were left home-
less. Damage in the district in
estimated at 050,000 zlotys
(approximately $100,000).
The worst sufferers among
the Jews, the report reveals,
were artisans and farmers. The
artisans lost not only their
homes but also their tools, be-
ing completely deprived of
means of earning a living. The
.soil on the Jewish farms has
been transformed into barren,
stony ground. The official
Jewish community also lost
heavily. Its cemetery and hos-
pital were badly damaged and
thousands of dollars are needed
for repairs.S.The community is
virtually penniless.
Rzeiszow Jews report that
119 families are homeless, with
an estimated damage of 96,000
zlotys. Scores of families were
ruined in the Wietrzychowice
district, being left homeless
and without food. Damage is
placed at 180,000 zlotys. Forty
Jewish families of Olphiny, the
entire Jewish population, were
left destitute.
From other areas similar re-
ports were made.
