Dr. Hamburger Urges
Large Primary Vote
Dr. Albert C. Hamburger, Dem-
ocratic candidate for coroner, this
week made the following state-,
ment:
"Apparently the most difficult
job in the world is to arouse a dis-
interested, apathetic and lethargic
public ac to the real significance
of a large and overwhelming pri-
mary vote. There can be no ques-
tion but what the primary vote
should be an index of the charac-
ter and qualifications of the vari-
ous candidates that are to go on
the ballot Nov. 6, and it naturally
follows that the success or failure
of the Democratic party will be
directly proportional and meas-
ured by the relative merits, de-
ficiencies, strength and weakness-
es of the candidates aspiring to
office on that date in the general
election.
"The principles of good govern.
ment, the work of recovery and
the success of Franklin D. Roose-
velt's New Deal Is dependent upon
the confidence, initiative, the
energy and the resourcefulness of
the private citizen that refuses to
disenfranchise himself at the polls.
"It is my humble opinion that
the people will refuse to sanction
meddlesome, undermining, Irritat-
ing, and antiquated government
at the hands of incompetent offi-
cials by exercising their rights to
go to the polls on primary day,
Sept. 11."
