but normally the sentence imposed
is never higher than five or his
months' imprisonment and a fine.
In this case, however, the de-
fendant was sentenced to 13 years
of hard labor and fined 100,000
marks. The severity of the een-
hence is heightened if it will be
remembered that sentence for
murder in Germany is never
higher than 15 years of hard
labor.
In addition, the father of the
youth, who was also accused of
participating in the crime, was
sentenced to eight years of hard
labor and fined 50,000 marks; his
mother to thrste years and 15,000
marks; his wife) to five years, and
his two daughters each to three
years of hard labor.

Luther on Way to United States

Aboard Europa
HAMBURG. (JTA)—Dr. Hans
Luther, German Ambassador to
the United States, sailed Friday
aboard the liner Europa to re-
sume his post in Washington. The
departure of Dr. Luther set at
rest persistent rumors that he
would be deprived of his post and
that a Nazi party member would
be appointed ambassador to the
United States.
Dr. Luther's work as ambassa-
dor in Washington has been un-
der fire from conservative German
American groups. His insistence
on the flying of the swastika has
led to had feeling in • number of
instances, especially in St. Louis.
At the same time, Dr. Luther was
accused of using the German Em-
bassy in Washington as a head-
quarters for Nazi propaganda in
this country.
