came as a shock to Jewish Pales-

charges against Achimeier, had
confidently expected the clearing of
the remaining two defendants.

DEXTER CHEVROLET CO.

The Dexter Chevrolet Company,
11534 Dexter Blvd. at Burlingame

its sales representatives. Mr. Gold

section of the city for the success-

Mr. Gold's exceptional success

with Chevrolet caused him to want

sales staff of the Dexter Chevrolet

decision was given to the press,
that Judge Moshe Valero, Jew-
ish member of the mixed trib-
unal, had voted to exonerate
Staysky.

Immediately after the verdict
was announced all factions of Pal-

estine Jewry united in calling on

the Jewish population to preserve
the peace. Chief Rabbi A. I. tta-

Cohen Kook issued a public appeal
"to all minima in Palestine and

abroad to suspend internal, fra-
ternal war."

The central committee of Revis-
ionists issued a proclamation warn-
ing that "the verdict will upset the
Jewish nation the world over" but
pointing out that the decision is
not final and will automatically
pass to the court of .appeals.
The Ilistadruth, the Jewish la-
bor federation, between which body
and the Revisionists there have
been frequent violent clashes, is-
sued a proclamation warning
against the possibility of provoca-
tions leading to clashes with the
police, as happened in Tel Aviv on
May 23, the day on which the Jews
carried out a general strike to pro-
test immigration restrictions.
As soon as the verdict was read
in the courtroom, Staysky sprang
to his feet with a shout:
"I am not guilty!"
His mother burst into tears and
cried out:

"lie is inocent! Ile is innocent!"
Staysky was given an opportun-
ity to make a final statement to the
court. Visably excited, he addressed
the court with a positive reaffirma-
tion ofhis innocence.
"I know nothing of the murder,"
he asserted heatedly, "I was sleep-
ing during the murder at the
Turgeman Ilotel in Jerusalem.
"This is a provocation by the
Jewish Labor Partq and the Pala-
estine government against me. I
am totally innocent.

"You judges will be responsible
for my life and for the lives of my
parents. Those who have sworn
falsely here will have to bear a
guilty conscience. I believe British
justice in England will teach you
hew to sentence innocents.
"You haave convicted here the
honor of an entire nation—not
mine—because 1 am innocent."
As Staysky concluded this state-
ment in a silence broken only by
his mother's sobs, his mother rush-
ed to hint and clasped her arms
