About 40 years ago, a man
named Mr. Hertz came to the
Rev. Aaron Wise, the father of
Dr. "1 Stephen S. Wise, and said:
don't know what to do with
my boy Joe. I am a poor man.
I can't afford to send him to col-

So the Rev. Aaron Wise replied:
"Send him to the Jewish Theo-

stipend and thus support himself."
The son—the Rev. Joseph Her-

rabbi of England.

"But I am Mischa Elman," re-

can National Christian Committee for German Refugees, composed
of representative citizens of both Protestant and Catholic corn-
munions, it was announced by Dr. S. Parkes Cadman, chairman of the
committee, in a letter addressed to Felix M. Warburg, national chair-
man of the United Jewish Appeal, which is seeking $'0,000,000 in the
United States for German Jewish relief.
Stating that the committee of Christians had been formed "at
the request of James G. McDonald, League of Nations High Com-
missioner for Refugees," Dr. Cadman said that the purpose of the
new organization is "to bring to Christian people everywhere a sense
of their obligation and opportunity to assume their proper share of
responsibility for meeting the appalling need of these victims of
political policies, whether Christians or Jews."
Mr. Warburg announced that Harry L. GuIcksinan has accepted
the chairmanship of the administrative committee of the campaign
to raise $3,000,000 for the relief and rehabilitation of the Jews in
Germany and other lands and the settlement of Jews in Palestine.
Mr. Glucksman has been the executive director since 1919 of
the Jewish WAfare Board, in which 275 Y. M. and Y. W. II. A.'s
and Jewish community centers in the United States and Canada are
represented. He is a former president of the National Association
of Jewish Center Executives and former vice-president of the Na-
tional Conference of Jewish Social Service and the Jewish Board of
Guardians, of which bodies he is now a member of their respective
executive committees. He is also a member of the national council
of the Boy Scouts of America and of the advisory committee of the
nation-wide organization. For many years, he has been a member
of the directorate of the 92nd Street Y. M. H. A. of New York City.
Mr. Glucksman has been identified with many previous cam-
paigns for overseas Jewish causes, notably the Al le Jewish Cam-
paign of 1930, in which he directed the New York drive. Ile is a
member of the Administrative Committees of the Jewish Agency for
Palestine and of the American section thereof, and is treasurer of
the American Palestine Campaign, which, with the Joint Distribution
Committee, is represented in the United Jewish Appeal.
The other members of the national administrative committee of
the United Jewish Appeal ate: Paul Baerwald, David M. Bressler,
Joseph C. Hyman, Alexander Kahn, John Leibowitz, Louis Lipsky,
Solomon Lowenstein, Isidore D. Morrison, Charles Ress., Louis P.
