Through the Joint Distribution Committee they have
co-operated with local committees in providing for the
refugees, Jews and non-Jews alike, in the countries
whither they have fled, and they have co-operated through
the Jewish Agency and the Joint Distribution Committee
with James G. McDonald and his distinguished colleagues
of that body in developing the plans of the Refugee High
Commission.
Through the Jewish Agency they have enabled thou-
sands of Jews from Germany to establish themselves in
Palestine, where, in an environment which, hallowed by
Jewish tradition, it is gratifying to know that they are
rapidly recovering from the cruelties to which they were
only recently subjected and are doing their part in the
upbuilding of the Holy Land.
But, with all that has been done, we have not yet met,
in full measure, the cry of our German brethren to us for
h elp. We must do much more—and the opportunity, of
which I am sure the Jews of America will gladly avail
themselves to do their utmost, is offered to us by the
United Jewish Appeal.
