CONGRATULATIONS

We regard "The Romance of a
People" as a significant effort to
bring to great masses of people a
new appreciation of the ideals
which have animated the Jewish
people through the centuries, and
a new conception of the spirit and
the beauty of Jewish tradition.
We add our congratulations to
the cast and sponsors on this
achievement.

formance in which he has appeared in the pageant, in New York,

Philadelphia and Cleveland he drew such prolonged applause that the

performance. had to be interrupted for many minutes.

Leo Kopp, although he is not seen personally in the pageant, is

responsible in great measure for its musical success. He is the musical
director of the spectacle. A very able pianist, be plays a leading

role in the preparation of the cast and in directing the music.

North End Clinic. continues to
reflect improved business condi-
tions.
March income from patients,
$1,015, very happily reached the
average required to balance the
1934 budget as granted by the Com-
munity Fund. This is the first time
that this monthly income from this
source has been this high since
1932, In March, 1933, it was only
$648.
March per visit income, 18c is
double that of March, 1933, and is
back to the level of the early sum-
mer of 1932. (This per visit income
is the total received from patients
for all services, laboratory examin-
ations, X-rays, all treatments, med-
ication and appliances, including
glasses, etc., divided by the total
number of visits—so represents
much more than the average
amount paid for a visit to • phy-
sician or dentist).
Only 1,844 individuals visited
North End Clinic in March—the
usual number in 1930. March,
1933, had the highest number, 2,528.
Visits numbering 5,643 were made
by these patients in March—the
level of early 1933. In January,
1931, the peak was reached, 7,926
visits.
Only 76 per cent of these visits
were free, the level of the latter
part of 1932, as compared with 84
per cent in March, 1933.
Only 38 per cent were from Wel-
fare clients-52 per cent were
from this group last May and again
in November—the highest percen-
tage reached.
The daily clinic load is now about
that of 1929 and 1931-209 visite.
Only 51 per cent of these new
patients were unemployed by ei-
ther industry or C. W. A. In No-
vember, 1933, 87 per cent were
unemployed. Not since 1929 have
so few of the new patients been
unemployed.
Only one-sixth of these new pat-
ients were from families assisted
by the Welfare instead of one-half
as in 1933.
