the political life of our nation.
Even the Congressional Record is
nut entirely free from allusions to
race and religious hatreds and
from rather definite implications
of prejudice and bigotry. More-
over, evidence at hand is only too
convincing that in this country
there is considerable organized ef-
fort to undermine the structure of

classes that throunh the PrOCeSS • S

therefore, that in opposition to
this un-American as well as this'
unslewish and un-Christian spirit 11,
of narrowness and bigotry there is
to be traced in our American life
a definite and widespread move-1
ment making for better under-1
standing.
This movement manifests itself 1 5
in many ways and in numerous
places. One traces it in the edi- E
tonal columns of a large lout of
both the secular and the religious
press. It nuty he found in the a
heroic utterances of statesmen
and scholars who speak to vast
audiences through the medium of
books and platform speeches and
radio addresses. One cannot step
into any one of dozesn of churches
in any of our great cities today 5-
and listen to the sermons that are •
preached from the pulpits of
almost all denominations without
realizing that an honest attempt is
being made by the forward look
ing preacher to establish the senti-
ments of brotherhood between
man and man more firmly than
ever before. In such pulpits the 5
creeds and the customs that divide
sect from sect are being less
stressed than they were and a new
enthpasis is being laid upon those
moral precepts and those spirited a
ideals which are common to all re-
ligion. The wider exchange Of la •
