One is tempted to speak in
superlatives when describing
services held by the Junior
Congregation of Shaarey Zedek.
Last Sabbath, attendance was
larger than usual and the con-
gregation was responsive to the
leadership of liebrert Levin,
who acted as cantor. The
resume of the portion of the
week was delivered by Miss
Shirley Saulson, who explained
the building of the Tabernacle.
M. August sang the Maftir. The
special prayers for the occa-
sion of the new moon and the
preparation for the Passover
were explained by Abe Gordon,
advisor.
Announcements were made
to the effect that Herschel
Berman will deliver the ser-
mon in the main synagogue
when the Juniors officiate on
Shabbos Hagodol, March 24.
Jerry Sonenklar and Ilerbert
Levin will share the duties of
cantor.

nue, bringing the total to 350
pledges no far, for the annual $5
donor luncheon which will take
place on Wednesday afternoon,
May 2, at Hotel St/trier. The lunch-
eon o c r r s a day before Lag
B'Omer.
From the splendid response the
workers are receiving on all sides,
this event bids fair to outshine
last year's beautiful affair, both in
attendance and public interest.
Mrs. Max Weksler, president of
the Auxiliary, states that this year
more than ever before, the re-
sponse must be greater, and ap-
peals to every Jewish woman to
make it her duty to attend the
donor lune h e o n. "Every new
pledge means an additional span
of new soil for the Juwish Na-
tional Fund and an opportunity to
settle other families who have fled
from HiLler's Germany," . Mrs.
Weksler says.
In order to give many of the
women, who have pledged to at-
tend the luncheon, an opportunity
to pay for their pledges, a large
open meeting has been called for
Tuesday afternoon, Starch 20, at
2 o'clock, at llotel Statler. To
those who wish to earn their
money, many novel suggestions
will be announced at this meeting ,
or they may get in touch with the
chairman of Ways and Means, Mrs.
V. Bernstein, University 2-4240,
or Mrs. I. Margolis, chairman of
rummage, Garfield 8398. Mrs. Louis
Miller is chairman of cards and
may be reached by calling Euclid
3377-W. Mrs. Max Schubiner is
chairman of reservations and Mrs.
Max Hayman is treasurer. Mrs.
Harry Kraft, Hogarth 8822, is
chairman of the souvenir booklets.
Mrs. Eli Sachse, general chair-
man of the luncheon, will give a
detailed report of the affair at
Tuesday's meeting. Mrs. Joseph H.
Ehrlich, ardent Zionist worker,
will be the guest speaker, and little
Bernice Schachove of the Ganapol
Studios will sing and dance in
Russian costume.
A social hour in charge of Mrs.
L. Miller will follow the meeting.
Tickets for "The Romance of a
People" may be secured through
any member of the Auxiliary of
the Jewish National Fund, or from
the captains, Mrs. A. D. Markson,
Mrs. I. Goodman, Mrs. Rose Light-
stone and Sirs. Max Weksler.

additional pledges to the donor
