nating the efforts of local Jewish
organizations resolved to create a
Jewish Council of Greater Detroit
and a provisional committee was
formed for this purpose.

It was explained following the

and groups as well as other or-
ganizations interested in the na-
tional land redemptioq program
in Palestine, has been convoked
by the Jewish National Fund of
America, according to an an-
nouncement issned by Dr. Israel
Goldstein, president. The con-
ference will be held on Sunday,
Feb. 18, at Hotel Benjamin Frank-
lin, Philadelphia, Pa., and will be
attended, it is expected, by more
than 1,000 delegates.
The chief purpose of the gather-
ing will be to adopt a country-
wide plan to secure the participa-
tion of American Jewry in carry-
ing into effect the resolution
adopted by the eighteenth Zionist
Congress last summer calling for
the establishment in Palestine of
a colony which shall be known as
Kfar Ussishkin, a tribute paid to
the veteran Zionist leader and
president of the Keren Kayemeth

the occasion of his seventieth
birthday, which is being celebrated
by Zionists throughout the world

by Zionist federations in nearly

Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS)
resolved itself into a review of
the Gerrart-Jewtsh situation with
special reference to the Jewish
refugees from that country and

far in their behalf. Proposals
were made for future activities in
that direction. The reports pre-
sented also dealt with the society's
activities among the Jewish mi-
grants the world over and called
particular attention to the changed
condition in Russia in conse-
quence of the recognition of that
country by the United States.
The meeting was attended by
close to 2,000 men and women
among whom were representatives
of Jewish organizations, national
and local. The Hiss branches in
Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Phila-
delphia, San Francisco and Se-
attle were also officially repre-
sented.
Greetings from the affiliated as-
sociations and from the offices
and bureaus were received from
Paris, Berlin, Rio de Janiero,
Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina;
Barcelona, Spain; Kovno, Lithu-
ania; Wasraw, Poland; Bucharest,
Rumania; Riga, Latvia; Harbin,
China and Stamboul, Turkey.

problems facing Mizrachi and as-

1 o'clock, the three recreational
and educational agencies of the
Federation will stage an unusual
dramatization of their work in the
form of a "trial" known as "The
Community on Trial." The cast
for this production, which was
written by Mrs. A. Max Kohn and
coached by Mrs. Kathryn Vincent
Mayer, includes the following: Dr.
Benjamin D. Welling as the judge;
Lewis J. Weitzman, prosecuting
attorney; Benjamin Wilk, attor-
ney for the defense; Mrs. Her-
bert II. Metz, as a police woman;
Nathan L. Milstein, court clerk;
Stevie Sarasohn, Jacob Claymon,
Mrs. Harry Becker and Lionel
Fink as the various characters who
are brought before the judge. The
basis of the trial is a "suit"
brought by the Fresh Air Society,
Jewish Community Center and the
United Hebrew Schools against
the Jewish community of Detroit
for $1,000,000. Nathan L. Mil-
stein has charge of arrangements
for the production, and Mrs. Jos-
eph II. Ehrlich will act as chair-
man for the meeting.
