• AN EXPLANATION •

To _Our Customers and Friends

THE MICHIGAN LIQUOR COMMISSION has just ruled that all beer shall henceforth be

labeled as to alcoholic content by volume—and Tivoli is most hoppy to abide by that decision.

Tivoli has been designating the alcoholic content of its beer by proof spirits because this

is the method used by Canadian breweries, and, we felt, would be more understandable

to the people of Michigan.

Numerous people have enquired—"What Is meant by

Alcohol by weight

designates the percentage which

the alcohol constitutes of the total weight of the beer.

2 Alcohol by volume equals alcohol by weight plus 3.5%.
3 Proof spirits equals alcohol by volume multiplied by 2.

In other words, o/colicil by calms and proof spirits, while messing
exactly as moth alcohol as alcohol by weight when applied to any
given beer, are progressively higher figures than alcohol by weight.

For example• the Tivoli Beer label reading "Not exceeding 6% of
alcohol by volume" will mean exactly the same as "Not exceeding
12% proof spirits", and you can be sure shot Tivoli will always main-
