Three months ago, English-speaking Jewries and scholars of note were outraged by a statement in the Ilibbert Journal, which is recognized as an authoritative quarterly review of religion, theology and philosophy, giving credence to the stupid ritual murder charge. The statement was then made in a footnote to an article by Ray Knight of Assam, India, entitled "Bib- lican Mistranslation." As a result of the pressure exerted by a certain amount of public opinion upon the Ilibbert Journal, its editor, L. P. Jacks, makes the following withdravail in the current issue of the -quarterly: "In a footnote to an article on 'Biblical Mistranslation' by Mr. Ray Knight in the July number of the Hibbert Journal, cer- tain statements appear which give the im- pression that the charge of ritual murder brought against the Jews at various periods Is supported by modern scholarship.
