at least once a week. Here we are
living in a land which bestows
upon us unprecendented liberty
and freedom to practice and pro-
fess the faith of our fathers. And
what do we do? We turn it into
an annual spectacle. Why can't
we at least demonstrate this same
fealty on Friday evening. What
would it involve? Sacrifice, mar-
tyrdom, death? No! A little
inconvenience on Saturday or
Sunday mornings that is un-
worthy of even the breath of
complaint. What would it mean
to one? It would acquaint one
with his glorious heritage which
has preserved and glorified RS
through the ages. It would give
one an opportunity to cultivate
a sense for and a consciousness
of the presence of God, which
would enlighten and beautify our
concept of nature and life. It
would unfold to one a goal of
happiness which would stand
above the precariousness of life
and the things of the world.
If Jews would only show the
same allegiance to their faith
every Sabbath as they do on Yom
Kippur, how gloriously they
would sanctify the name of God
before the eyes of all men. All
our professions about our being
missionaries of faith and religion
are hypocritical if we do not back
them up with deeds. To the non-
Jew who sees our indifference
and lassitude, all our lofty pray-
ers and utterances seem a joke.
There are but one or two days
that he manifests a respect and
reverence for the Jew and Jud-
aism. And that is on Rosh Ila-
shonah and Yom Kippur, when
he sees them all as a unit, not
in hack of their counters or desks,
but in the House of God.
Lct the Kol Nidre make us
resolve, during this coming year,
that we be more faithful in the
observance of our Jewish duties.
Let us today determine to really
get rid of the lassitude and the
indifference which have kept us
away from our shrine, except on
Rosh Hashonah and Yom Kippur.
When the tents of Jacob shall be
filled week in and week out as
they are on Yom Kippur Eve,
the faith of each of us shall be-
come strengthened and invigora-
ted and the world shall surely
then begin to admire us truly
and to emulate our spiritual life
and legacy. Then shall all who
will observe our life say: "Surely
this great nation is a wise and
understanding people. For what
great nation is there, that bath
God so nigh unto them as does
Israel."

MESSAGE OF KOL NIDRE
We pause from our work-a-
day life at another milestone,
to extend to our host of
friends and patrons a happy
and prosperous 5693. May
you all be inscribed in the
book of life for a more pleas-
ant, prosperous, healthier
year than the one just past.
