As to school, she says, non-
committally,. "IC8 all right."
Learns quickly ... is in the eighth

the New York Professional Chil-
dren's School. At the studio she
goes to school between scenes.
Here's how: A teacher remains on
the set ... Mitzi studies a geogra-

her to rehearse a scene . . . the
scene is "shot" . .. Mitzi returns
to the geography ... studies .

pays it isn't hard. She used to ga

lived in New York ... now their
abode is too transient.
Mrs. Green, who has had a glam-
orous theatrical career, no longer
regrets giving up the stage three
years ago when Mitzi was signed
for pictures . . . Shaping her
daughter's career has become a
fascinating life-work. Modestly,
almost humbly, she says, "We are
very grateful for Mitzi."
We broached the subject of
Mitzi's golden head. Mrs. Green
explained that for the picture "Lit-
tle Orphan Annie" several wigs
had been tried but were unsuccess-
ful photographically. At last she
had to consent to the blonding, "I
try to be a modern mother, but I
guess I'm a little old-fashioned at
heart." She dislikes artificiality
of any kind, and the hair will re-
turn to its natural color when the
picture is finished.
The Greens have a son, eight-
een, who lives with his grand-
mother in New York. His ambi-
tion is to be Mitzi's manager.
Everybody likes Mitzi . . . per-
haps because Mitzi likes every-
body. The other clay she worked
with fifty children from the "or-
phanage." They idolized her to
the point of tearing her apart ,.•
brought her their troubles, their
broken toys, their school work. She
never lost patience. At the end
of a day which would'have sent
an adult to a rest cure, she ad-
mitted being only "a little groggy."
A sensible, lovable, unselfish,
unspoiled little girl is Mitzi Green,
whose star crown rests lightly on
her young head.

completed as speedily as possible.
We are promised a storehouse of
Jewish knowledge, facts, figures
and discussions of Jewish prob-
lems, including a complete resume
of the history and problems of
American Jewry, the l'alestine
question, etc.

The First Volume.

The first volume deals with the
"Founding of the Nation—From
the Earliest Times to the Death
of Saul." While following the
traditional account, the authors
have "endeavored to illumine" the
subject matter by the authenti-
cated findings of the "higher criti-
cism."
A complete index and an ap-
pended course of study serve as
excellent help to the clearly and
interestingly written work.

thropic activities, Mr. Friedberg
was a liberal donor to important
Jewish causes. He was a leader
in Zionism, contributed to Pales-
tinian causes and attended a num.
ber of Zionist conventions.
Mr. Friedberg was particularly
active in the United Ilebrew
Schools, and for the past three
years held the office of honorary
president of the schools. Ile
served on the boards of the He-
brew Free Loan Association, the
House of Shelter, Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, the Zionist Or-
ganization, Detroit Jewish Old
Folks' lithe, the Keren Ilayesod
and other causes. Ilis son, Morris,
Friedberg, was for toil) years the
chairman of the United Palestine
Appeal.
Coming to Detroit 35 years ago
from Cleveland, Mr. Friedberg en-
tered the wholesale clothing busi-
ness. About 30 years ago he
opened his first jewelry store on
the northwest corner of Wood-
ward and Grand River avenues.
Ile was the founder of Friedberg's,
Inc., jewelers.

The second volume deals with
"The First Commonwealth—from
the Accession of David to the Fall
of Judah." We are told that "in
telling the story of the First Com-
monwealth, th e authors have been
mindful of the underlying char-
acter of their work as a whole,
which is a history not so much of
individuals as of the Jewish peo-
ple. This history, they have de-
scribed as designed to show a peo-
ple in motion and evolution, a
people fashioning its environment
and being fashioned by it, creating
new conceptions and new ways of
life to meet new conditions, fruc-
tifying and uplifting the spirit of
mankind, suffering and struggling
but never succumbing."

The Third Volume.

The third volume deals with
"The Second Commonwealth—
From the Babylonian Captivity to
the Fall of the Second Temple."
Those who have read the first
three volumes will look forward
anxiously to the appearance of
the other nine. To those who have
not yet read and studied the first
three volumes we address this
word of recommendation and urge
that they secure the books at once.
Every library will be enriched by
them, and every student's knowl-
edge of Jewish affair3 increased
and enhanced by their contents.
