The board of directors of the
Michigan State Federation of
Temple Sisterhoods met Sunday
afternoon, Sept. 18, at the home
of its state president, Mrs. S. L.
Seamen, in Jackson. Plans were
made for the continuance of the
Sisterhood work throughout the I
coming year.
The meeting was opened with
an invocation, offered by Rabbi
Jerome D. Folkman, also of Jack-
son. Rabbi Folkman then pre-
sented a rose-wood gavel to Mrs.
Seaman in appreciation of her
"earnest devotion and loyalty to
the Sisterhood of Temple Beth
Israel," which she served as presi-
dent before her election to the
presidency of the State Federa-
ition.
In her message to the board,
Mrs. Seaman outlined the prob-
lems facing the Federation, and
offered suggestions and recom-
mendations as to the handling of
these problems. The board adopt-
ed a plan of a competitive project
for the various Sisterhoods in the
state. This competition will re-
sult in the awarding of a cup
to the Sisterhood having the high-
est score on the basis of (1)
Uniongrams sold in proportion to
membership; (2) Sisterhood cal-
endars sold in proportion to mem-
bership; and (3) attendance at
meetings in proportion to mem-
bership. The board also accepted
a division of the state into four
regions, each under the direct
supervision of a state officer, thus
facilitating contacts between the
local organizations and the State
Federation.
Mrs. Sol Wolff, Detroit, was
elected to fill the vacant office of
first vice-president. The names of
Mrs, Jerome D. Folkman, Jackson,
and Mrs. Charles Levy, Bay City,
were added to the executive com-
mittee.: Other committee appoint-
