Philadelphia Jewish
Hospital Gets $400,000

PHILADELPHIA. — (J.T.A)
—A check in the amount of
$400,000 was presented by Mrs.
Anna Esther Fridenberg to
Arthur A. Fleisher, president
of the Jewish hospital of this
city.
This money is to be used for
the purpose of erecting, equip-
ping and partially maintaining
a Surgical Ward Building in
connection with the Hospital.
This gift is the largest of its
kind given to a local communal
institution since the bequest a
quarter of a century ago of
Moses Aron Dropsie, making
possible the founding of the
college bearing his name.

French Report,

LONDON.— (J. T. A,) — The
Administrative Committee of the
Jewish Agency for Palestine con-
cluded its sessions with the adop-
tion of a budget of £303,000 for
the coming year after a spirited
debate which almost caused a
split and the resignation of sev-
eral members of the committee.
The controversy over the bud-
get was precipitated by the an-
nouncement of the members of
the Zionist section that they were
bound by the decision of the Ac-
tions Committee to insist upon a
budget of £306,000. This the
Administrative Committee was at
first unwilling to endorse. The
non-Zionist section resented that
their Zionist colleagues should be
bound by the decision of the Ac-
tions Committee and the situation
reached such a critical stage that
several members threatened to
resign.

More than 80 per cent of the for-

States came to this country prior
to 1920 and less than a million per-
sons entered during the five and
one-fourth years preceding the
1930 census during which time im-
migration has been restricted, ac-
cording to an analysis of census
returns relative to year of immi-

of Commerce.
The returns show that approxi-
mately one-third of the foreign-
born white population of the coun-
try, numbering 13,366,407 in 1930,
entered in 1900 or earlier.
The newest immigrants in the
United Staten, that is, those who
have entered since 1920, are large-
ly Canadian, Italian, German,
Mexican, Irish, Scotch, English,
Russian, Polish and Scandinavian.
During the last decade there has
been a decrease, as compared with
the previous decade, in immigrants
from Netherlands, Belgium, Lux-

Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia,
Russia, Lithuania, Finland,
Rumania, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy,
Spain and Syria.
