Max Raskin ist theories in the
old world and therefore was not
afraid of reforms, Mr. Raskin
said that even when Socialists lost
some offices in some of the elec-
tions in the past 22 years, their
non-Socialist successors adhered
to Socialist principles, helping
place Milwaukee in the position of
the most prosperous community in
America.
Mr. Raskin's office as city at-
torney corresponds to that of cor-
poration counsel in Detroit, except
that here it is elective. Only 30
years old, and only six years out
of college, Mr. Raskin was elected
by • vote of close to 90,003 to
that of about 80,000 received by
his opponent.
The Detroit Jewish Chronicle
representative met Mr. Raskin
during Tisha b'Ab services, at
Congregation Shaarey Z e d e k,
Wednesday evening. Mr. Raskin
expressed the belief to the writer
that under Socialism all racisl
lines disappear and there is little
prejudice on the ground of re-
ligion or nationality. While some
prejudice remains with some, most
Socialists are not concerned with
racial affiliations, he stated, and
he ascribed his success at the polls
to this Socialist spirit of liberality.
