week filed petitions to be a candi-
date for U. S. Representative from
the new Fifteenth district, late on
Friday withdrew from the race.
In his letter to Thomas F. Far-
rell, Wayne County clerk, announc-

The Bar Mitzvah was called to
the reading of the Torah in the
Monroe synagogue on Saturday
morning. Rabbi Bert Klein of
Monroe delivered a sermon.
On Sunday evening, the Mon-
roe Hebrew Society arranged •
banquet in the Annex of the B'nai
Israel Synagogue in Toledo, and
100 people were present. Ad-
dresses were delivered by Rabbi
Klein, the Bar Mitzvah and his
father, Harry Isaacs, Henry Blum,
Bill Hammerman, who was toast-
master, and others.

Women's European Welfare Or-

Letters were read from Euro-
peas orphans who were on the

phans brought over by this organi-
zation and kept on private board
in Detroit, also for the past seven
years.
It was decided to continue this
relief work and monthly checks

MANY ACTIVITIES
OF MIZRACHI YOUTH

The Mizrachi Youth of Detroit
last week entertained the secre-
tary of Zeirei Mizrachi of Tor-
onto, Sholom Barrenholtz,
On Saturday evening, the Miz-
rachi Youth were guests at the
Melaveh Malkah celebration ar-
ranged by Mizrachi. Rabbis J.
Thumin of Detroit and L. Stitzky
of Warren, Ohio, were the guest
speakers.
Mr. Barrenholtz, a Palestinian
who for five years was a student
in Yeshivah Etz Chaim, rendered
several Palestinian and Arabian
songs. On Sunday afternoon he
conducted a group in singing of
Hebrew melodies.
On Monday night, • farewell
party was given in honor of Mr.
Barrenholtz at the clubrooms. This
was conducted in a Palestinian
manner, characterized by singing
and dancing of the "Hera."
The organization congratulates
two of its members who were re-
cently engaged, I. Knoppow, for-
mer president, to M. Tilchin, both
active workers.
Mr. Barrenholtz was also enter-
tained privately by the members.
Sabbath services sponsored by
Mizrachi Youth are being con-
ducted weekly at the Beth Tephila
Emanuel Synagogue, Taylor and
Woodrow Wilson. All Orthodox
youth, men and women, are In-
vited.
The next general meeting will
be held on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at
8741 Twelfth street.

EBIN ELECTED BY
YESHIVA'S RABBIS

At the recent convention of the
Rabbinical Association of the Rab-
bi Isaac Elchanan Theological
Seminary, Rabbi N. II. Ebin was
unanimously elected president of
the association. This is Rabbi
Ebin's eighth time that he has been
chosen as head of the organization
composed of graduates of the Ye-
shiva. Rabbi Ebin is the spiritual
leader of the Congregations Sons
of Israel, Brooklyn, New York, and
prior to coming to New York was
rabbi in Scranton, Cleveland and
Buffalo, N. Y. He has been in the
rabbinate for the past 25 years
and Is regarded as one of the out-
standing personalities of Orthodox
Jewry in America.
