ments by Miss Linsky and Miss
Della Tobin will complete the pro-
gram.

Center Intermediate Oratori-
cal Contest.

The Jewish Center's intermediate
oratorical contest will be held at
the Center, 31 Melbourne, on Thurs-
day, May 26, at 8 p. m.
Four finalists have survived the
eliminations by manuscript and de-
livery. Originally, there were 16
entries. The preliminary judges
were George Kratchman and Na-
than Berke.
There Is no admssion charge for
the contest.

PHILOMATHIC MEDAL

At their thirtieth annual model
meeting, held Wednesday evening, I
May 18, the Philomathic Debating
Club presented to an audience of
over 300 persons a debate on the.
question, "Resolved, that a substi-
tute for the capitalistic system be
adopted in the United States."
The affirmative team, consisting
of Louis Koretz, Abe Davis and
George Schreiber, won the decis-
ion of the organization by a vote
of 7 to 6 and received the Harry
J. Dingeman cup. The negative
was defended by Sam Finkelstein,
Alex. Baruch and Oscar Colton.
The judges, Louis D. Millman,
Isadore Levin and the Hon. Alan
Campbell unanimously awarded
the gold medal for best speaker to
Oscar Cotten. The silver medal
for second speaker went to Sam
Finkelstein, and Alex. Baruch was
given honorable mention.
The usual presentation of the
gavel to retiring speaker was
made by Nathan Shur, a recent
alumnus, and the gavel was re-
ceived by Albert Pearl, speaker
from September, 1931, to Janu-
ary. 1932.
The present speaker, Jack Rom,
presided at this excellent affair,
held at the Congregation B'nai
Moshe, Dexter at Lawrence. The
committee on arrangements, head-
ed by Max Chomaky, included Os-
car Cohen, Louis Koretz, Abe
Davis and Jack Behrman.
