duced 20 per cent for 1932-33 If
an amendment sponsored by the
Association for Tax Reduction
Inc., carries at a special election
to be called during the next 9
days. Relief to the home owner
from excessive and burdensome
taxation is in prospect if the voters
'of Detroit approve the amendment
1, the city charter. Petitions are
•now being circulated among De

troit voters.

provides:
1: Taxes against general prop-
erty in the City of Detroit be re
duced to $61,000,000 for the year
1932-33; and limited at $60,000,-
000 for $1933-34; $59,000,000 fo r
'193445; $58,000,000 for 1935-36
$57,000,000 for 1936-37.
2. If the city adopts a budge
for more than $61,000,000 for
next year, the mayor and council
shall immediately draft a new bud
get not to exceed that amount.
3. If the maybr and council
fail to draft a budget not exceed
Mg $61,000,000 the council shall
direct the city treasurer to deduct
from each tax statement an
amount equal to the proportion by
which the tax levied exceeds $61,
000,000.
4. The city cannot spend more
money, through issuing bonds
