Jewish Youth Claims He Was Baptized Without Knowl- edzel Sues. BUDAPEST.—(J. T. A.)—The unusual case of a Jewish youth who claims to have been baptized without his knowledge and who now wishes to be officially re-insta- ted as a Jew, is occupying the at- tention of the high tribunal and eliciting wide attention. Involved in the case is a Jewish student, Andreas David, son of wealthy parents, who states that without his knowledge , he was bap- tized in order to secure his admis- sion 'to the Budapest University, where he had several times been re- fused matriculation because of the prevailing numerus clausus against Jews. In the course of one of his at- tempts, David asserts, he was ap- proached by one Stephen Karsay, a university official, who promised to secure his admission for a price. To this David agreed, and provided him with funds. Karsay with the money at his disposal hired a non-Jewish laborer, Ziesander Cripeler. The latter ac- companied Kersey to a local priest where he represented Kersey as being the Jewish student Andreas David. The priest performed the baptismal ceremony over Karsay and gave him a baptismal certifi- cate in the name of David. With this document, according to the story, Karsay was able to enter David's name as a Christian stu- dent. It was only two years afte r the alleged incident had occurred that David learned what had hap- pened, and thereupon entered suit. He has provided witnekses who are ready to testify that David re- peatedly declined to accept the Christian faith in order to facili- tate his matriculation. Kersey, the university official in- volved, took flight to Czechoslova- kia and the laborer, Cripeler, is confined to an insane asylum. The strike was arranged as a demonstration of solidarity with miners in Upper Silesia who are strike against a reduction of wages. Among the most recent contro- versies which has aroused the ire of Jewish deputies and is involving two governmental departments is a text book of bee culture by one Franciszek Malizky. Malizky in his book allegedly in- tended as a text book for use in agricultural schools, was able to inject in his study of bee culture a study of so-called Jewish respon- sibility for the world crisis and moreparticularly for the crisis among Polish peasants. Deputy Gruenbaum addressed a letter of protest to the Polish De- partment of Agriculture. From the latter, Deputy Gruenbaum re- ceived assurance that the book was published by the author himself and was sanctioned neither for school nor school library use. It is further believed that the Minister of Interior will order the book confiscated. (Continued from Page One.) in the soil of a landless people.
