II Column for Our Boys and Oirls
By UNCLE JUDAH
lEAR BOYS AND GIRLS:
That great and happy festival of Chanukah, or the Feast of the !
Maccabees, starts next Friday evening, with the lighting of the first
candle. Thereafter, as you know, one more candle is to be lit each
night for eight nights, two candles on Saturday night, three on Sun.. !
day night, four on Monday night, and so on until the night when eight
candles are to be lit.
I hope you are all planning for this holiday, and are arranging to
celebrate it in a happy way. There will be lots of parties and many
celebrations in the schools, and every boy and girl should be at one
of these parties. For those who do not attend classes where the holi-
day is to be celebrated, I recommend the celebration of Young Judaea !
and the United Hebrew Schools, to be held at 3 p. xi. on Sunday, Dec.
13, at the Philadelphia-Byron Talmud Torah.
Next Friday's column will be a strictly Chanukah column. I hope
to receive a lot of contributions in the essay or poetry contest-today
being the last day on which they must reach me. Bernard Isaacs.
superintendent of the United Ilebrew Schools of Detroit, will, as I
have already told you, be the judge, and the winner will receive a
prize.
Now you should have some more stmies and poems, and until next
week I bid you good-bye.
On the other hand, he non-
Jewish emigration from l'alestine
exceeded by nearly 2,000 the
number of non-Jews who entered
the country.
