M

EN of the Frank Murphy sort
come along only at rare inter-
vals, When they do the people
are not slow to realize that a real leader
has arrived. It was a stunning blow to
the smug and complacent politicians of
little vision when the people of this
great city went to the polls the other
day and gave their mayor such a tre-
mendous endorsement; they could not
understand it; they were, and they still
are, utterly unable to realize what a
man of high ideals, absolutely no ulter-
ior motives, whose conception of pub-
lic office is 100 per cent service to hu-
manity, is actually able to beat them to
a standstill at the ballot box.

Frank Murphy beats the old-school
politicians because he combines his
humanitarianism with executive ability
to such an extent that while he made it
possible for great sums to be spent in
the relief of worthy unemployed, he did
it without raising the tax rate and at an
actual saving in administrative costs.
He deserves your vote on his record.

He framed a budget that cut millions off the expense of
running the city.

He took care of the destitute, worthy Detroiters out of
work through no fault of their own, but he did it,
and ran the city, too:

FOR FIVE MILLION DOLLARS LESS THAN IT
COST THE YEAR BEFORE!
He plays the game squarely and fairly-no favoritism.

He is honest, clean, capable, and human; a man of
brains and heart who knows exactly what he is
doing at all times, and why we believe in him and
want him for our Mayor, because he is a real leader
who has proved his fitness during his first year in
office.
