Publishing legal notices, opinions and news items pertain.
ing to the legal profession in the Detroit Jewish Chronicle will
bring to the attention of a considerable number of our people
the activities of the local courts and judicial decisions that
concern the general public.
The dissemination of that kind of news in such a paper—
the news value of these items—will be very beneficial not only
to the subscribers of this paper, but as a matter of general
education will work to the welfare of the entire community.
1, therefore, heartily welcome the establishment of the
legal notice department by the Detroit Jewish Chronicle and

ATTORNEYS NOTICE

There seems to be some misap-
prehension AS to the days for the
hearing of motions. There are a
considerable number of attorneys
who are laboring under the impres-
sion that all motions are argued
on Friday during the summer ses-

during the summer sessions will
be heard every day during the

on Saturday until the fall term.

The site of the old G. & R. Mc-,
Milan store at Woodward and
Fort is an historic one. Early rec-
ords show that it was once the
property of John Scott, father of
Jim Scott, known today through
the Belle Isle fountain, who was
born in a house next door on the
south.

When George and Robert Mc-
Millan established this business in
1849, they were criticized for lo-
cating so far uptown. The center
of business then was at Jefferson
and Woodward.
From the start the McMillan
brothers decided against the hodge-
podge general store, and this was
the first Detroit store that made a
specialty of one class of goods.
Detroit was then a quiet, leisurely)
town of 20,000. Residences nes-
