There are many in the bread-lines these days who would have laughed at such a possibility a year or
two ago.
But Time and Trial are great levelers. They make us understand the Other Fellow's plight.
Ever since the Great War and the relief campaigns that followed, there has been the cry that "Charity
begins at home!" This year it really does! But it must not stop there!
Now comes a new day for America! Bread-lines and soup-kitchens are no longer unknown sights in our
land! Suffering stalks where once was plenty!

This year the Allied Jewish Campaign must provide
for relief at home as well as abroad. In fact, FAR MORE
MONEY WILL BE SPENT RIGHT HERE IN DETROIT
THAN IN EUROPE AND PALESTINE COMBINED!

Only the grim necessities are provided for! Stern
economy is the rule of the day in social service as in busi-
ness and government.

"The Jews have always taken care of their own" is an
ancient tribute of our neighbors. Now, more than ever
before, we must live up to our reputation for philanthropy.
If we fail, ours will indeed be a sorry plight. If we suc-
ceed, a troubled Israel will be brightened with a new hope.
