rare modesty and true feminine
charm."
Mrs. Sulzberger reviewed Miss
Szold'a activities and described the
events that led up to the formation
of Iladassah, the women's Zionist
organization, of which Miss Szold
was the organizer and of which she
is the guiding spirit to this very
day. "Iladassan on the Pales.ine
scene is a glimpse of utopia, where
peace and good will shall Lc more
than a hops er a sung," Mrs. Sulz-
berger said.
"A single incident may disclose
a characti r," Mrs. Sulzberger said
in closing. "It is told of Henrietta
Szold that when she gave up her
place as medical director of Ila-
dassah to the successor of her own
choosing Dr. I. H. Rubinow, she
moved her desk into the outer 'Mice
and sat with the staff of clerics.
Oblivious of her own prestige, she
sought only to enhance that of the
new director--an example not of
niece unselfishness but of utter self-
lessness.
On her seventieth birthday an
impressive purse was presented to
Henrietta Szold—not a material re-
ward for priceless service, rather
a new sort of Nobel Prize—a prize
for noble living. 'Give her of the
fruit of her hands, and let her
works praise her within her
gates.'"
In honor of Miss. Szold, the mu-
sical program last Sunday was
featured by a group of Hebrew and
Palestinian songs, rendered by Mr.
Galvani, Rhea Weissberg and
Edith Saute, with Liebe Clamage

The comunity at large has come
realize the importance and sig-
nificance of the "Gemilath Chas' -
dim" and as a result the Jewish
Welfare Federation, the organized
instrument of the Jewish commue-
i y, is now very extensively partici-
pating in the financial meant
of the association. The work has
increased to such an extent that
now more is being loaned out in
one month than was previously
possible during an entire year.
Time after time, the Hebrew
Free Loan has served as a bridgs
between failure and success, be-
tween hope and despair, and has
safely carried families from de-
pendence to independence.
Although the Hebrew Free Lean
, is a Jewish institution, it is non-
sectarian in its activities, since the
Jewish law makes it mandatory
that no discriminations be made in
the helping of the needy.
The men who have devoted their
time and their talent to the work
