He was active in the

Lodge of 11'nai B'rith, Zionist Or-
ganization of America, Indepen-
dent Order of Odd Fellows, and
Congregation Beth Jacob, of which
he was one of the original builders.

Great Loan to Schools.

But it was as a worker in the
United Ilebrew Schools
• es-
that he
pecially distinguished himself. His
death was especially shocking to
the Talmud Torahs' friends be-
cause Mr. Duscotr was known as
the closest friend of the late David
Robinson, treasurer of the schools,
who passed away last week. A
fleeting had been called of the
United Hebrew Schools for last
Tuesday evening, at which it war
intended to elect Mr. Duscoff to
succeed Mr. Robinson as treasurer.
Instead, the meeting was converted
into a gathering of mourning at
which plans were made for the fu-
neral on Wednesday.
At the funeral services on
Wednesday, 51. II. Zackheim pre-
sided, and eulogies were delivered
by Rabbis A. M. Hershman and A.
M. Ashinsky. Rabbi Ilershman
said in part:
"We are witnessing now the de-
struction of to sanctuary. This is
true of all men who depart. It is
particularly true of all men who
give themselves up to the com-
munity. The world stands on
three things: Torah, Avodah and
Gemilath Chassodim. Mr. Duscoff
was interested in all of them and,
above all, the Torah, in the up-
building of the United Ilebrew
Schools. The question now is, who
is to continue the work? David
Robinson is no more, Louis Dus-
coff is no more. What then is to
become of the little children? That
is the thought. We need now men
who would come up and take up
the work begun by these two pub-
lic-spirited leaders and their asso-
i elates."
Rabbi A. M. Ashinsky said:
"Louis Duscoff was what the
rabbis call a c'acham, a wise man.
Ile looked into the future and
helped build the institution of
learning and of charity. The
American Jewry is afflicted with
sleeping sickness and very few
were the people who strove to
awaken the sleeping organism. Mr.
Duscoff was one of those who did."
Cantor Zaludkowski chanted an
appropriate prayer in place of the
Molei Rachamim, which is not per-
mitted to be read on Chanukah.
K. of P. Lodge No. 55 was in
charge of funeral rites at Clover
Hill Park Cemetery.
Mr. Duscoff is survived by his
wife, Rose, and two daughters,
Mrs. George (Sarah Roberts and
:Miss Tina Duscoff.
The Hebrew schools were closed
on Wednesday in tribute to Mr.
Duscoff and the Chanukah celebra-
tion of the Kvutzah Ivrith and the
Women's League of the United
Hebrew Schools, that was to be
held on Tuesday evening, was post-
poned for the coming Monday eve-
ning, at the Philadelphia-Byron
Talmud Torah in tribute to the de-
; ceased leader.
