I/r. John Slawson, director, and
u chairman of the
Fred M. !tut',
executive committee of the Fed-
eration, have endorsed the $5
membership t•ampaign now being
son/lucks! by the United Hebrew
Sehosls. under the chairmanship
of B. Isaacs. At the lest meet-
ing of the board of the schools
at which the spirit of the cam-
paign was explained, it was
pointed out that the U. H. S.
are not seeking members who
merely pay the $5, but chiefly
men and women who would
identify themselves directly with
the schtsda.
Mr. Wineman, in token of his
appreciation of the work of the
campaign and in order to en-
courage the participants in the
drive, volunteered to subscribe
for 20 na.mbers. Dr. Slawsim,
in subscribing to the campaign,
gave his full endorsement to this
movement. Mr. Itutzel has been
a member of the schools, paying
the direct $5 membership fee to
the institution since the member-
ship has been introduced in
1926.

REPORT M'DONALD 'DE
AGREES TO MODIFY
THE WHITE PAPER

VALERA CALLED
AN AMERICAN JEW

LONDON.--(J. T. A.)—That
Eamon De Valera, noted Irish
leader and head of the Fianna
Fail is a Jew, is alleged by Sir
John Ervine, dramatist and
critic, in an article in the cur-
rent issue of Time and Tide, a
weekly review. Ervine, who
has written a number of anti-
Jewish articles since his return
from his recent visit to the
United States, says "no one
knows of De Valera denying'
that he is a Jew but if anyone
did, De Valera's features would
speak fur themselves."
Ervine says that De Valera
was born in New York, is an
American citizen, and was
taken to Ireland as a child and
"has been a nuisance. there ever
since. Unless he has lately se-
cretly naturalized himself, Be
Valera is an alien in Ireland
and has no right to sit in the
Dail at all. If I were a resident
of Ireland I should apply to a
court to remove De Valera on
the ground that as a foreigner
he cannot sit in Parliament
until he acquires legal status as
a citizen. I should be interest-
ed to see the passport that Be
Valera uses when he travels to
the United States."
