still use it," Dr. Hershman charged
against McDonald. "He says to
tee Arabs they can have Palestine
and the Jews can have the Balfour
Declaration."
"Under Turkey we had no riots,
but under enlightened England we
had three riots," Rabbi Hershman
continued, and demanded that the
MacDonald government come out
with the truth and tell whether it
has broken the Balfour Declara-
tion. Ile charged that a handful of
men in power are besmirching the
name of the British people and
declared "we cannot believe that
the, people of England are with the
government in this issue."
Indignation, Not Despair.
Declaring that the meeting was
held in indignation and not in de-
spair, Dr. Hershman lauded the
note of optimism that marked the
meeting.. While it is natural that
Jews should feel the pain of the
blow inflicted, he said they cannot
afford to become panicky.
"We are here in a spirit of
hopefulness," he said. "I look to
the many meetings of indignation

of the Jewish people that conic

carry on our sacred task. Our
work is of a two-fold character:

%%'e must consecrate ourselves
anew to the cause of Zion and we
must appeal to the conscience of
the British people in whom we
have faith and confidence. We
muet bring home the fact that the
White Paper, which is for us the
blackest of all papers, is a betrayal
of the Jewish op e and is a revo-
catilin of the pledge to the Jews."
