Group Hopes to Aid Needy

and Unemployed; Litt-

During Yom Kippur services
held at Littman's Yiddish People's
Theater, Twelfth and Seward, the
plight of the unemployed and the
needy found an echo, with the re-
sult that a special committee was
formed to discuss ways and means
of helping many of the unfor-
tunates in the present depression.
At a meeting at Littman's Ilall
on Saturday night, Oct. 4. an or-
ganization was formed for the pur-
pose of aiding the needy and un-
1 employed and will be known as
the Detroit Jewish Emergency Re-
lief Fund. A. Littman, manager
of the Yiddish Theater, presided at
the meeting, and Sam Nathanson
was elected chairman of the organ-
ization. Charles I'. Nathanson, at-
homey, volunteered to act as sec-,
retary.
It was decided to call a confer-
ence of Jewish organizations in or-
der to form an all-representative
relief movement. The conference
will be held at Littman's People's
Hall on Wednesday evening, Oct.
15, and individuals as well as rep-
resentatives of societies are urged
to be present. Committees were
chosen to visit meetings of organ-
izations and to invite them to at-
tend the conference.
