seth Israel Rabbinical College, the
Needlework Guild, and we also
took care of about 44 men passing
through the city asking assistance.
We have as Congregation
Irnai Israel with substantial $600
sums to help remove their mort-
gage that they acquired after re-
modeling the synagogue. We car-
peted the aisles and stairs of the
school and bought a velour curtain
for the balcony and a white satin
table cover for the altar.
Our members have been very
liberal with donations to the com-
munity center. Practically all
members have turned in $2 or'
more for the annual experience
fund. We are always ready with
a helping hand to assist the Sab-
bath School, any person or insti-
tution requiring aid.
We have concluded a profitable
and enjoyable year and both our
president and members deserve
much credit for their work and
co-operation.
I trust that we will continue to
work even harder this year in
peace and harmony and show
greater strides in our various un-
dertakings.

Apparently people of the seven-
teenth and eighteenth centuries
liked company in their dying, as if
they were grieved to think that they
might die and that millions would
go on living. So it was frequent-
ly directed that this bit of verse be
carved on tombstones:

•Consider, friends, as you pass by,
As you are now, so lore was I;
As I am now soon you must be;
l'repare for death and follow nil.

That the sentiment enjoyed wide
popularity in America is proved by
the fact that it is so frequently
found in old graveyards all through
New England. It appears several
•times in a remarkable old burying
ground in Nantucket, and at least
once in the eldest part of the cem-
etery at Lyme, Conn.
