JERUSALEM. — The Interna-
tional Wailing Wall Commissioners
were en route back to Europe Sun-
day after a final and vain attempt
on the part of Chairman Loefgren
to persuade the Moslems of Pales-
tine to promise acceptance of the
commission's rulings in the ques-
tion of religious rights at the Wail-
ing Wall.
The Grand Mufti, Moslem and
Jewish representatives and mem-
bers of the Palestine government
bade the commissioners farewell
Sunday night as the special train
pulled out of the station.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency
reports that Mr. I.oefgren at the
end of Saturday's session said he
believed the commission had col-
lected sufficient material to report
en and deride the claims of Mos-
lems and Jews to the wall.
GET HOLIDAYS OFF
WITH HALF SALARY
I'ATERSON, N. J.—(J. T.
A.)--All Jewish teachers in the
public schools of this city will
in the future be given three
days off with half pay on Rosh
Hashanah and Yom Kippur, ac-
cording to a resolution passed
by the Pateorson Board of Edu-
cation. This ends a six-year
fight which has been carried on
by the Jewish teachers of Pater-
son against the deduction of
substitutes' pay on Jewish high
holidays.
Feeling that the matter could
not be treated as a Jewish prob-
lem since it might smack of dis-
crimination, the special commit-
tee of the board of education
presented a resolution which es-
tablished three "merit (lays" by
which every teacher will be per-
mitted that number of (lays of
absence by application to the
superintendent with the loss of
half pay. Charles II. Roemer,
city attorney, has been the main
figure behind the teachers' agi-
tation against the deduction of
substitutes' pay on Jewish holi-
days.
