The National Fund Conference.

Representatives from a number of cities
in Michigan will convene in Detroit Sun-
day in the interests of the Jewish National
Fund. This land-redeeming agency for
Palestine, which was the first fund to be
created for the reconstruction of the Jewish
Homeland, is not included in the Allied
Jewish Campaign for $6,000,000. The con-
ference on Sunday is part of a nationwide
move to increase efforts for land redemp-
tion through this fund, after the Allied
drive closes.
The redemption of Palestine soil as Jew-
ish property is the most important obliga-
tion in the upbuilding of the land. The ac-
quisition of more land will mean an increase
in immigration. Both go hand in hand and
form the very foundation for the Jewish
structure in Palestine. Without Jewishly
owned soil, the hope for a Palestine-rebuilt
is futile. Without land owned by Jews, it
will be impossible to bring Jews to live in
what was once Eretz Israel.

If only the various elements could co-
operate in times of peace and plenty as
they are now joining hands to battle the
locusts. what a blessing that would be for
the land and its peoples!
In view of the dangers to the Jewish set-
tlements in Zion from the locust, it is very
important that research be made in the fu-
ture to combat the locust danger. The Jew-
ish Agency. through its experts, should
consider it a prime obligation to seek a
means of fighting this peril.

JUST FOR PUBLICITY
But now, we • learn that Mrs.
Jaques Danielson would never as
much as think of taking her grape-
fruit and eggs in the morning with-
out Jaques sitting on the other side
of the table. The whole story, it
seems, was but a publicity stunt
concocted at the time that Misr
Hurst began a series for one of
the leading magazines.
And yet scores of married people
have tried the separate apartment
plan just b•:muse Fanny Hurst
tried it and said it was a rip roar-

ing success.

LIVE AND LEARN
At Coney Island, we have seen
the man who was half man and
half woman—we have seen the
bearded woman and we have even
seen a Democrat who lived in
Pennsylvania. But nothing like
Abe Hollantlersky has ever been
seen or heard before.
Ahe is an author. His book
is coming out shortly—and Abe
boasts of being the only author who
cannot read and write. We have
known of any number of authors
who cannel write, but ht re is one

It is intended to aid him in his search for the

live together with better understanding of each
other's trials and ambitions, and to make for
all a better and safer place to reside.

AM GLAD that the committee of editors named
Felix Warburg to receive the Gottheil medal
awarded by the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity for his
contribution to Jewish life. I suggested after the
death of Louis Marshall that the mantle of leader-
fall an Mr. Warburg. And it appears
ship would -
that others are beginning to appreciate what he is
doing for his people. One reason that I like Mr.
Warburg is that he is not antagonistic and he has
the faculty of getting every element in Jewry to
work with him. Sometimes we have leadershin
that is ton aggressive and ton self-centered, which
operates to create factions. But Felix Warburg is
so unselfish in his approach to welfare work among
his people that he serves to unite rather than divide.
I am very glad indeed that he has received this
recognition which must indicate to him that his
activities involving• as they must, great personal
sacrifice are being highly appreciated.
