Amerfram Apish Periodical Carter CLIFTON ATINU1 • CINCINNATI 10, OHIO THE9Enzon' SKULNIK IS THE YIDDISH CHAPLIN i lia Performance at Littman's Theater is Work of Real Artist. Menashe Skulnik came to De- troit for several performances at Littman's Yiddish People's Thea- ter and took the city by storm. Seldom before has an actor so cap- tivated a Yiddish audience here. Sensing the magic of his art, the theater was packed to the doors every night he performed. Friday night, March 21, when he made his lirst appearance, the theater was packed to the doors and hundreds were denied admittance. And Skulnik has rightfully cre- ated this sensation. To see him art is to be treated to an unusual performance of skill. He has been styled, in some non-Jewish quar- ters, as the Yiddish Charlie Chap- lin, and this tribute is not exagger- ated. Skulnik has for a time played Cr) the English stage, and there as well as on the Yiddish stage he has bewitched critic and audience. One must see Skulnik in action to be able to appreciate Aim. In make-up he is a class by himself. Ilia carriage, Chaplin as it is, en- forced by the Yiddish humor which he has mastered, makes you laugh from rise to fall of the curtain. But Skulnik's is not the cheap hu- mor. His is a real study of the life of the Jew, and very often his awl- RONICIZ DR.
