How a Class of Non-Jewish Nurses at the North End

vigorous reply disputes Dr. Nlor-
genstern's position and condemns
the lack of sympathy which is
shown to the Russian tragedy, as-
sorting that reform has nothing to
do with the issue and that the
question relating to Orthodoxy
should never have been raised in
the face of an overwhelming ca-
lamity.
Mr. Morgenstern's Statement.

Mr. Morgenstern stated In part,
in his letter to Mr. Richards:
"We must realize that the solu-
tion of the problem, if there is to
be any solution at all, must lie
with Reform. Please understand
that I ant not attempting to make
propaganda for American Reform
I ant trying sincerely,

on the basis of my careful and re-
bponsible studies of Judaism, to
understand the true inwardness of
this situation and the solution of
the problem. The tinie has come
when the entire world must face
the fact squarely that Reform in
Judaism does not mean disloyalty
to Jewish tradition, nor is it yet
the way of ease, assimilation and
compromise, its its antagonists SO
often unworthily claim. It is a
matter of historic necessity. Ju-
daism's progress with the passing
ne time, its ready assimilation and
incorporation into its content of
new, tried and proved ideas, prin-
ciples and ideals of existence alone
have tumbled it to exist throughout
all these ages and to grow and
create. The soul of Judaism and
the soul of the Jewish lieople with
it can find true self-expression only
in spiritual progress and even in
liiritual leadership. We must
realize that the Yevsektzia are
striving: for this, even though we
must condemn their met hods and
their goals.
"As I said before, the only so-
lution of the problem can he a
true, progressive, moderate, con-
ructive Reform movement in
Russia. Judaism may not remain
nithodoxy there any more than it
may remain Orthodoxy elsewhere.
Otherwise, the Yevsektzia will
Isirsist in their ;migrant and t hey
will undoubtedly be right in prin-

Seek Elimination of Racial
Classification in Natural.
ization Blanks.

WASHINGTON. —The Senate
immigration committee approved a
proposal by Senator Pleas', Demo-
crat, South Carolina, to issue resi-
dence certificates to all aliens le-
gally residing in the United States.
A delegation advocating the
elimination from the naturaliza-
tion blank of certain racial classi-
fications called on Secretary of
Labor Davis. In a brief presented
to him, it was stated that "it is re-
spectfully submitted that the re-
quirement as to specifying race is
not provided for anywhere in the
naturAlization law or regulations
and is illegal, inadvisable and con-
fusing and should be eliminated."
The delegation maintained that
Section 10 of the Naturalization
Art of March 2, 1929, refers only
to nationality and not to race and
is not therefore any authority for
racial clasailication. The immi-
gration law, on the other hand,
does specifically provide in certain
instances for classification as to
race, they stated.
Secretary Davi, said orally after
the conference that he would take
under advisement the matter of
altering the naturalization blank.
The delegation included Congress.
man Emanuel (seller, Max J. Koh-
ler of the American Jewish Com-
mittee, Judge Horace Stern, Mrs.
Stark W. Lansburg of the National
Council of Jewish Women, Samuel
W. Salu•, state senator from Penn-
sylvania.
Congressman Sol Bloom of New
York has been appointed associate
director with Lieut.-Col. Ulysses S.
Grant, 3rd, of the celebration in
1932 to commemorate the two hun-
dredth anniversary of the birth of
George 1% ashington, it was an-
nounced here Monday by Senator
Simon D. Fess and Representative
John' Q. Tilson on behalf of the
executive committee of the George
Washington Bi-Centennial Corn-
mission.
