U. S. Legation's Statement.
The following statement was re-
ceived by the Jewish Telegraphic
Agency from the Rumanian Lega-
tion.
"From information so far gather-
ed in connection with incidents
which occurred at the University
of Iasi (Jassy) in the class of Prof.
Smuleanu, it seems that there were
injured among the Jewish, as well
as among the Christian students.
The intervention of the authorities
and the arrest of the leaders of the
movement have brought the inn-
dents to a stop. The University
has been closed and a drastic in-
vestigation begun by the prosecut-
ing attorney and the University
authorities. In reply to a question
put in the house by congressman,
Fischer, Ministers Magdearu and
Costachescu answered that the gov-
ernment is doing ita utmost to su-
press the movement and is taking
strong measures for ascertaining
who is responsible for it and to
punish the guilty."

Beat Jewish Passengers.
VIENNA.---(J. T. A.)—Student
followers of the anti-Semitic Pro-
fessor Cuza severely beat Jewish
passengers on a train near the
Marasesci station, Rumania, ac-
cording to reports reaching here.
Among those beaten was a 70-
year-old Jew. Other Jewish pas-
sengers seeing their danger pulled
the emergency cord of the train,
but for their pains were arrested
on a charge of misusing- the
emergency cord.
When the train stopped the
Cuzist students disappeared. The
police inspector at the station
later gave assurances that a repe-
tition of such anti-Semitic attacks
on the trains would be prevented
in the future.
