Dr. Maxwell Silver of 1605 Cal-
t-at avenue, for 23 years a general
practitioner in Detroit, dier Thurs-
day, at the age of 54, at Harper
hospital, following illness that
lasted a year. Dr. Silver for many
years maintained offices at 83 East
Warren avenue.
I/r. Silver, who was a former
; president of the Maimonides Medi-
cal Society, was born in Russia and
was brought to the United States
at the age of 5. The family located
in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated
from the College of Physicians and
Surgeons at Baltimore in 1897.
After taking a post-graduate
course at Johns Hopkins Univer-
sity, Dr. Silver returned to Iowa,
where he practiced until 1906,
when he cane to Detroit.
Ile leaves his wife, Mrs. Estella
Silver; two sons, Felix, an attor-
ney, and Henry; a brother, Dr.
Morris D. Silver of Detroit, and a
sister, Mr's. Bessie Cooper of
Cleveland.
Funeral services were held un-
der Masonic auspices at Temple
Beth El Friday afternoon. Burial
was in Woodmere Cemetery.
Besides holding membership in
the Maimonides Medical Society,
Dr. Silver was a member of the
Wayne County Medical Society,
the American Medical Society, the ;
Knights of Pythias, the Elks and
Mosaic Lodge, F. & A. M.

FRANKFORT-ON-MAIN. — (J.,
T. A.—Franz Keseuzweig, Jewish
philosopher, died Dec. 11 at the
age of 45. He was the translator
of the works of the Ilebrew poet,
ehuda Ilalevi and, together with
Martin Buber, created the famous
modern Bible translation in Ger-
m many. A physical defect prevent-
ed him from accepting a call to
•Frankfurt University in 1922 as
professor of religious science.
