A Short Story about a Short Story:
That Millicent Jewish humorist,
Dorothy Parker, spent three years
wearing out costly shoe leather
toddling the manuscript of a short
stdry. After she had been turned
down by half a dozen editors she
finally succeeded in convincing the
editor of one semi-highbrow paper
to publish it, and received the
scarcely munificent sum of $75
for it.
After its publication the editor
met Miss Parker and confided to
her that he was sorry, very sorry
indeed, that he had printed it. Ilalf
a doze n people., he said, had can-
celled their subscriptions as the
result of the publication of this
story.
M ell, to make a long story short,
the 0. Henry prize for the best
short story was recently awarded
to Miss Parker. And the hest short
-tory was the very one with which
she had had see much difficulty. .

WARSAW. — (J. TSA.1 — The
long postponed discussion on the
question of prohibiting the She-

up at the meeting of the Warsaw

Dr. Zawadzki, the rapporteur,
asked in his speech that the
slaughtering of animals according
to Jewish methods should be lim-

ish representative, emphasized
that the Shechita is not less sani-

e- ovation speech of Dr. Judah L
Arabs Aim to Deny
Jews All Rights at
Wailing Wall Area
JERUSALF:111.--(J, T. A.)—
Chief Rabbi Kook has received
lette r from the Society for
the Defense of the Mosque,
Aksa, purporting to represent
the views of 1,000 Arabs from
Palestine., Transjordania and
Syria who met in Jerusalem on
Nov. 14. They resolved not to
permit any further organized
Jewish worship at the Wailing
Wall.
The letter claims that the wall
is a purely Moslem religious
site and while it grants that the
Jews, like all other persona,
have the right to pay simple vis-
its, it states that "any ceremony
or the installation of objects or
the raising of the voice consti-
tutes an encroachment on Arab
religious rights on the part of
either the government or the
Jews."
According to this letter the
meeting reproved the govern-
ment's temporary regulations
with regard to the Wailing Wall
and demands their cancellation
and the establishment "of the
previous state of affairs." The
letter also threaten, that if the
Jews disobey, the Arabs will
even deny them the right to
visit the Wailing Wall.
The letter says in part: "We
swear by Cod to carry our de-
mands into force and place all
responsibility which might en-
sue thereof upon the govern-
ment. For the sake of peace
and public security we deem it
a duty to communicate this to
you SIP that you may take steps
to prevent the Jews from en-
croaching upon and passing be-
yond the limits granted by the
Mosiecas. If you fail to do so
the resolution will be carried
into force by all legal means."

interrupted Dr. Magnes, in the
midst of his address, to remind
him that his audience had come to
hear a learned address and not a
political speech.
What drew fire was Dr. Magnes'
statement to the effect that: "If
the only way of establishing the
Jewish National Home is upon the
bayonets of some empire, our
whole enterprise is not worth-
while and it is better that the eter-
nal people that has outlived many
a mighty empire should possess its
soul in patience and plan and wait.
