•lIoly Land" to look back upon;
and just as the American and Eu-
ropean Jew prays for the recon-
struction of Palestine the St phar-
dim of Morocco and Spanish Amer-
ica look even though hopelessly,
for the rebirth of Jewish reatness
in Spain. The name of Spain in
their mouths takes on the deep fer-
vor of Enaz Yisroel when spoken
I y a patriarch. It takes but a
short journey through Spain to un-
derstand why this should be so.
If there is any country whose nat-
ural beauty has the power to en-
tangle inextricably the human
heart. it is Spain. That the sun of
Spain should have continued to
warm the heart of the Jew even
after almost five centuries of exile
is no wonder to him who has felt
its soul - penetratin g rays even for
but a few months. Like Palestine
it is the sacred land of the three
great religions. Jew and Moham-
medan both mourn for lost adu-
lusia; Catholicism had never flour-
ished more fervently elsewhere.
Like Asia Minor, its blur skies and
seas, its rugged mountains, fertile
plains and harsh deserts lend ready
soil to the religion movements that
take root there.

able why Jacobo Bontata, the ac-

community in Tangier should
proudly claim himself to be a Span-

spite the fact that his family has
not lived on Spanish soil since the
expulsion. His Spanish citizenship
has been handed down to him
through 16 generations, and it is
with a pride of almost Junker no-
bility that he reveals the family
tree extending back some 500 years.

Morocco has ceased to be the
typical Gollus of the race, even
more than America. For while
_American Jews have to a consid-

equality and social tolerance, the
Moroccan Jew has gone further
and has reached a position of posi-
tive ascendancy over the rest of
the native population. This is es-
pecially true in Tangier, though it
applies also to the other two large
centers of Jewish population, Cas-
ablanca and Tetuan. This he has
done by utilizing both his power

Should Palestine be colonized and
formed into a Jewish Sate! Senor
