STATES AMERICA CAN
DEMAND COMPENSATION

LONDON.-(J. T. A.)-Amer-
ice has a good case in international
law to demand compensation for
the life and property of American
victims of the Palestine outbreak,
declares an article in the London
Nation.
The article cites as precedent
the New Orleans case, where
America paid compensation to
Italy for not having taken oaf
ficient precautions when a number
of acquitted Italian prisoners were
lynched by a mob. If compensa-
tion is paid the American govern-
ment, it can scarcely resist paying
compensation to Palestinians as
well.
"The Jewish-Arab problem is
just as large or as small as the
British government allows it to
be," Mates the article. "The Pales-
tine administration is largely re-
sponsible for the creation of Arab
nationalism, because it created the
impression that it was entirely an
open question whether Great Brit-
ain adopted a Zionist or an Arab
policy." The article goes on to
blame Sir Herbert Samuel, former
High Commissioner, for a weak
policy toward the Arabs which led,
it says, to the present difficulties.

This Rumanian Writer
Shows _
Hia Ignorance

A reader of The Detroit Jew-
ish Chronicle submitted to us,
in translation, an editorial
from the Tribune Roumana, a
Rumanian weekly, entitled
"Ghivalt" and aimed at mock-
ing the present .lewish tragedy
in Palestine.
The Chronicle learns that this
article was written by a Ru-
manian minister in Chicago.
The ignorance revealed in the
article in turn points to the cal-
ibre of the writer. He refers,
for instance, to Balfour as a
Jew, and shows such un appal-
ing lack of knowledge about
Jewish matters that the only
possible Jewish reaction to his
cry of "ghivalt" is pity.
The Chronicle is in receipt of
other letters from fanatics,
threatening its staff and at-
tacking Jews for "daring to
protest against the British pol-
icy in Palestine." On the other
hand, we are in receipt of many
very fine sympathetic• letters
from non-Jews, ninny of them
containing contributions. We
regret that lack of space pre-
vents the publication of these
letters.

There's new purity in tone, too. It comes
not only from truer Electro-Dynamic repro-

slightest allowance in listening to music. You
hear only what is played or sung-just as it is
