EMBARRASSING MOMENTS

Sammy Dibert Returns to
Hollywood Stage.

'When you have been

Sunday, Sept. 1, marks the re-
turn of the Hollwood Theater to
its old policy of presenting elab-
orate stage shows in connection
with the best available talking me-.
tion picture features and short
subjects. Sammy Dibert and his
Hollwood Sunnybrook Orchestra
return to the stage and the head-
line Radio-Keith-Orpheum act will
be Chase's Choir of Boys, an ag-
gregation of 18 young men, recog-
nized generally as songland's fore-
most juvenile stars. This act is a
distinct novelty and the boys sing
popular numbers, jazz offerings
and offer a few excerpts from the
classical. There will also be other
big time acts and a colorful stage
setting.
On the talking screen, the Hol-
lywood offers Clara Bow in her
latest and most sensational aud-
ible story, "Dangerous Curves."
The sound news, a topical short
and other novelties of interest, as
well as an organ solo, complete :
the first program under the re-
established policy.

Alhambra Theater Bill For
This Week.

"All at Sea," a talkie full of
mirth, and "The Collegians," two-
reel talking comedy, feature the
bill at the Alhambra, Woodward
and Kenilworth, on Saturday.
Sunday and Monday the feature
will be "Close Ilarmony."
"A Max's Man," with William
Haines, will be the feature on
Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Our Modern Maidens" Has
Moved to Madison.

For the fourth time in the his-
tory of local rnoviedom, popular
demand has caused a picture to be
taken from one of the weekly
change houses and put into a long
run house. This distinction falls
to "Our Modern Maidens," the
Joan Crawford picture which is
creating such interest at the Mich-
igan and which was moved Friday
to the Madison.

"Broadway" at State.

The original and the ultimate of
all motion pictures with the Broad-
, way theme, the Universal super-
production, "Broadway," is cur-

Subtle drama, clever dialogue
and thrilling sequences are the out-
standing features of "Light -Far-
gers," a one hundred per ceut all-
talking crook melodrama, at Orien-
tal Theater, which opened Friday.
A great stage show is also sched-
uled with Everett Sanderson and
Company in the feature portion of
the program. Mr. Sanderson is
hearalded as "America's Most Ver-
satile Performer." Dorothy By-
ton and Girls offer "Snappy Step-

the stage offering. Eddie 1101 in

One of the most remarkable ar-
tistic achievements of the screen
in acting and directing and in pho-
tography, Dolores Del Rio's
"Evangeline," the current United
Artists picture at the United Ar-
tists theater, is winning its plaud-
its from discriminating local thea-
tergoers.

very greatest of the year's motion

Last Week for "A Connecti-
cut Yankee."

The Cass will lose "A Connecti-
cut Yankee" at the end of next
week. The final performance of
this extremely fine entertainment
will be given on Saturday evening,
Sept. 7, when the attraction de-
parts on its long tour through
other cities. It has been continu-
ously playing without hindrance
since the inaugural night in Stam-
ford, Conn., on Oct. 1, 1927, and
further bookings will carry the
company as far as the Pacific
Coast cities before a halt is called
in May, 1920.

Sherman Boxes Britton.

Louis Sherman and small son,
Horace, were in Grand Rapids to
witness a boxing match between
Morrie Sherman (Mr. Sherman's
son), now Michigan Welterweight
Champion, and Jack Britton, for-
mer world's welterweight cham-
pion. Britton got a good lacing
with Sherman winning all of the
10 rounds.
