D. S. ZEMON EXPLAINS DECISION
TO MAKE DONATIONS OF $5,000
TO FREE LOAN PERPETUAL FUNDS
David S. lemon, president of
the Hebrew Free Loan Assoeia
tion, this week made known the
details of an important decision
reached at the semi-annual meet-
ing two weeks ago.
By adopting a clause in the by-
laws to treat donations or bequests
of $5,000 or more as perpetual
loan funds in the name of the
donor or testator, the association
has made it possible to create trust
and memorial funds which will
either serve as living honors to liv-
ing donors, or as memorials to
those who either make bequests
after death, or in whose honor
such contributions are made.
Mr. Zemon explains that donors
of $5,000 or more may stipulate
how the money is to be distributed
in loans, and all notes issued on
loans on such monies bear the
name of the donor. Donors are
also privileged to designate in
what sums, minimum or maximum,
such loans may be extended.
In his statement Mr. Zemon
urges., by virtue of the unlimited
amount of good accomplished by
the establishment of such trust
funds and memorials, that more
Detroit Jews avail themselves of
such perpetual honors by remem-
bering the Hebrew Free Loan As-
sociation. Ile urges also that the
Free Loan Association be remem-
bered by Detroit JCWS in writing
will+. The new article as embod-
ied in the by-laws of the associa-
tion follows:
"Any donation or bequest of
$5,000 or upwards to the loan fund
of the association shall be treated
as a perpetual loan fund in the
name of the donor or testator. All
loans made out of such funds shall
be identified with the name of the
donor or testator, by having the
note of the borrower bear his or
her name. If the donor or testa-
tor shall prescribe or otherwise
designate a preference for the
maximum or minimum sum of each
individual loan to be made out of
the funds bearing his or her name,I
such designation or preference
shall be honored and carried out to ,
the extent that the practical ad- 1
ministration of the association's
affairs will permit. At the end of
each year a statement of the num-
ber and amount of the loans made
out of each memorial fund shall be
embodied in the president's annual
' report"
