Editor, Detroit Jewish Chronicle:
You have undoubtedly read the
book entitled "All Quiet on the
Western Front." Would you like
to have my impressions? If any-
thing, it created in me a mental
nausea, an immeasurable disgust
towards war. The book is not
merely written by a German for
the Germans, but for the entire.
world. War k atavistic bestiality;
it is the subordination of the mass-
es to the ruling classes; it is what
Anatole France terms "the great-
est crime against the majesty of
life." While this book is not a
great literary production, it is a
powerful plea against war and war-
lords, be they potentates, presi-
dents or parliaments; against
Chauvinism that historically
always spells ruin; against false
patriotism that inveigles hon-
est, simple and innocent peo-
ple into a grotesque conception
of it. Lest we forget, all is not
quiet on the western front. New
armaments, new warships, new
battling airplanes, new powerful
super-explosives are invented and

The Detroit daily press, in editorials last Friday, was

unanimous in lauding Governor Fred NV. Green's appoint

The Detroit News, speaking of Governor Green's appointment 011
the new justice, said:
