1698, the club has grown and
widened its scope of members. At
the present time there are 30
members in the organization.
These are recruited from the vari-
ous high schools of the city, De-
troit City College, Detroit City
Law School, Detroit College of
I.aw, and the University of De-
troit.
The officers of the club (luring
the past semester-its sixty-first-

clerk, Nathan Shur; assistant
clerk, Albert Williams;sergeant-
at-arms, Albert J. Silber. The
members of the board of directors

The officers for the coming
term are: Nathan Shur, speaker;

Silber, assistant clerk; Norval Slo-
bin, sergeant-at-arms. These and
Max Simon and Albert I'earl con-
stitute the board of directors.
During the past semester, the
Philomathic Debating Club has put
before the public numerous
events. Foremost among these
was the twenty-seventh annual
model meeting. Max Cheemsky, Na-
than Berke and Albert J. Silber
were given the Hon. Marry J.
Dingeman silver loving cup, which
has been awarded annually for the
last 10 years to the winning team.
Albert J. Silber and Norval Slobin
were given the Louis Smilansky
gold medal and the Mrs. F. V.
Martin silver medal for the best
and second best speakers, respec-
tively. Another major event of
the term Was the debate with the
Detroit City College. Leo ()ark.,
Norval Slobin and Nathan Shur
went down to defeat against the
assaults of the victorious first af-
firmative team, which has only lost
one debate, and that to the Uni-
versity of Purdue.
