RELATION OF THE UNITED JEWISH
CAMPAIGN TO THE HEBREW FREE
LOAN ASSOCIATION.

Passover Greetings

By DAVID S. ZEMON
President Hebrew Free Loan Association
The average person perhaps does not realize how imperative the
success of the coming $150,000 United Jewish Campaign means to
this organization.
One thousand three hundred ninety-four 11,394) loans at an aver-
age of over $101) each were made possible during the last year through
the capital fund raised for us by the Jewish Welfare Federation, dur-
ing the lust three years.
Our work has advanced to such an extent that we are loaning out
today more in one month than during the entire year of 1923.
The result of our work is surprising. Some of our borrowers of a
'few years ago are today rated as indorsers; house owners have been
able to meet their tax payments and mortgage interest payments; me:-
I chants have been able to replenish their stocks and students have been
' able to continue in their college courses by paying their tuition in
year.
advance, and paying buck their loan to us during the course of the
Through our system of loans many borrowers here were able to
keep their families in Europe from starvation.
There is an element of independence manifested when you assist
'a nian in the way of a loan instead of an outright gift. Time after
time the Hebrew Free Loan Association has served as bridge between
'failure and success; between dependence and independence; between
hopelessness and hope.
But all this work requires capital and the future growth of this
; organization depends largely on what extent the Detroit community
will contribute to the working capital of this organization.
I urge Detroit Jews to give their full share.
